Answer: High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol is referred to as the good cholesterol because increased blood values protect the patient from heart disease. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is referred to as the bad cholesterol because high values are usually linked to heart disease.
