Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
When only complement is present on the membrane, giving a positive direct antiglobulin test using monospecific Coombs sera, a cold agglutinin is most likely present. Agglutination of red blood cells (RBCs) would be seen on the blood provided it is at room temperature.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Of the items listed, only IgE antibodies have not been associated with excess red cell destruction.
