Answer to Question 1

A
The urinary tract is very vulnerable to bacterial infection. In the high volume of blood that is fil-tered by the kidney, there are some bacteria that can colonize in the kidney, causing an infection. Also, bacteria can easily enter the urinary tract through the urethra, and then the infection may spread up into the kidneys. Viral infections do not generate bladder debris. Recurrent UTIs are not likely the result of poor hand hygiene. Spicy foods do not irritate the bladder wall or lead to UTIs.

Answer to Question 2

D
The Amsler grid test assesses the extent of macular degeneration by noting the patient's percep-tion of missing or wavy lines on the grid. The Snellen eye chart is used to assess visual acuity. Visual field assessments may be used to assess peripheral vision.
