Answer to Question 1

ANS: B
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG, 2013) recommends a total pregnancy weight gain of 11.5 kg to 16 kg for a woman of normal weight. While weight gain is slower during the first trimester, it is recommended to average one pound per week during the second and third trimesters. The recommended weight gain for pregnancy is adjusted according to the patient's body mass index.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
FHTs are best auscultated through the fetal back in vertex and breech presentations and toward the mother's flank when the fetus is in a transverse lie. In vertex presentations, FHTs are usually best heard below the mother's umbilicus, in the lower abdomen, whereas for breech presentations, they are best heard at or slightly above the umbilicus, in the mother's upper abdomen.
