Answer to Question 1

Correct Answer: 2, 3, 4
Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of morbidity and mortality in people with diabetes mellitus. Aspirin therapy is contraindicated for patients with recent gastrointestinal bleeding, anticoagulation therapy, or active liver disease. It is not contraindicated in patients receiving vitamin B12 injections or those with an allergy to sulfa medications.

Answer to Question 2

Correct Answer: 4

All individuals require some fat in the diet. It is important for the nurse to discuss this with the patient. The interaction will provide additional information concerning the patient's knowledge of a healthy diet. A discussion with the parents and the physician is likely warranted, but this can wait until after a discussion with the patient. A referral from the physician is needed in order to contact the dietitian.
