Answer to Question 1

Answer: 3

1. The client's ability to drive is not affected by pneumonia.
2. The child of 3 years of age fears separation from parents.
3. A strong support system, usually family, can be extremely important to any client experiencing grief. The nurse should explore other options with the client, since the family lives out of town.
4. Having a spiritual life can be an important support during grief, but the nurse does not advise a client to join a church. It would, however, be appropriate to ask the client if there is a minister who could be notified.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: 2

1. The client is not exhibiting acting out or aggressive behavior, and would not be considered in the angry stage.
2. The client is withdrawn and very likely depressed, requiring nursing intervention.
3. The withdrawn client is not still in shock or denial. The client has accepted the reality and is still working through the grief process.
4. The client who has accepted the loss also has plans for moving on with life, with engaging life. The withdrawn client is depressed.
