Then divide this total in half to determine the volume of fluid permitted during the day shift or 1400 mL/2 = 700 mL. The remaining 700 mL needs to be divided over the evening and night shifts. Divide 700 mL/2 = 350 mL. This is the volume of fluid the client is permitted on the evening shift.
