1. Alopecia is the loss of hair, but is not usually considered abnormal in this society, and is a result of heredity.
2. Ecchymosis is large purple spots on the skin.
3. Jaundice is a yellowing of the skin and sclera of the eyes.
4. Hirsutism is excessive hair formation and usually indicates an endocrine disorder.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: 3

1. The nurse gives the client time to remove all clothing and put on a gown.
2. Unless requested by the client, or unless the client is a minor, the nurse discourages anyone else in the room, for the client's privacy.
3. Since the nurse will be palpating the abdomen, the client should empty the bladder to prevent discomfort.
4. It is not necessary to ask the client to have a bowel movement prior to an examination.
