Answer to Question 1

Answer: A

A CDS system will offer options from experts for the client's situation. It remains up to the nurse to make a final decision, but the information obtained can be useful in assisting the nurse to select other options of care. The system will not point the nurse in any particular direction; the nurse views the information and determines the next step to take. The system will not make the decision for the nurse. The CDS system assists the nurse with nursing decisions, not medical decisions or information.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: A

Quality improvement is the name for the processes used by an agency to measure and improve aspects of client care. The nurse may advance practice, but that is usually accomplished by returning to school for a higher degree. Preventing problems from arising is only one benefit of quality management. Nurses are encouraged to participate in quality improvement programs but are not legally required to do so.
