Patient is 10 years old and suffers from cystic fibrosis. Due to the worsening of the cystic fibrosis, the patient was started on large doses of prednisolone to help manage his symptoms. The patient presented to his pulmonologist's office where both he and his mother complained of polydipsia and polyuria. He has also been very tiredabove and beyond the usual tiredness associated with his cystic fibrosis. Based on the patient's symptoms, the doctor checked his blood sugars using a glucometer. The results were a staggeringly high 495. The physician diagnoses the patient with steroid-induced diabetes mellitus. She decided to admit the patient to the hospital to get his blood sugars under rapid control. She also ordered an endocrinology consult.
