Pinworms are small, white, threadlike worms that live in the cecum and are transmitted to the mouth. Children should be taught to wash the hands before eating to prevent the transmission of the worms back into the digestive tract. Playing on the floor, frequent voiding, and playing with the dog will not help prevent reinfection with pinworms.
