D, E
Feedback
Correct Informed consent is required for invasive procedures that involve risk to a
child, such as a lumbar puncture, chest tube insertion, and bone marrow
aspirations. A consent is also required for a CT scan with contrast.
Incorrect Informed consent is not required for procedures that are covered under the
general consent to treat that is signed at admission by a parent or a
guardian. These procedures all fall under this category.

Feedback
A Although this may be indicated, it is not the priority action.
B These are signs of early congestive heart failure, and the physician should be
notified.
C Withholding the infant's feeding is an incomplete response to the problem.
D Increasing oxygen may alleviate symptoms, but medications such as digoxin and
furosemide are necessary to improve heart function and fluid retention. Notifying
