Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
Symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (weight gain, irritability, bloating, loss of concentration, headaches, constipation, acne, breast tenderness, anger, fatigue, feelings of being out of control) occur between ovulation and the onset of menses, disappearing completely by 1 week after the menstrual period.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
Primary dysmenorrhea is caused by prostaglandins, which are produced in higher concentrations during menses. Treatment includes the use of prostaglandin inhibitors (such as ibuprofen or aspirin). Acetaminophen does not block prostaglandin synthesis. Use of heat and continuing exercise may also prove beneficial.
