Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
Amniotic fluid is slightly alkaline and when placed on Nitrazine paper, will turn the paper blue. Presence of amniotic fluid is not tested by consistency or odor.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
Uterine contractions lasting more than 90 seconds can decrease uteroplacental blood flow to the fetus, possibly causing fetal distress or hypoxia. The abnormal finding should be reported to the charge nurse.
