The higher the value of F, the greater must be the difference between the between groups variance and the within groups variance. Between groups variance represents the effect of the treatment; therefore if the treatment had a large effect, it will be reflected in a larger F than if the treatment had no effect.

Answer to Question 2

C
The within groups variance is the denominator of the F ratio. The larger the denominator of a fraction, the smaller the result.
