Answer to Question 1

Students' self-efficacy beliefs become strong influences on behavior and, consequently, shape the activities that students choose, as well as how long they will persist at a given task, particularly when the task is difficult.

Answer to Question 2

Near transfer occurs when an individual uses previously learned knowledge and skill relatively soon on highly similar tasks. An example is a student who has recently learned how to do two-column addition being able to correctly add figures that have three columns.
