The most frequently used classification system sorts individuals into one of two categories: aggressive or withdrawn behaviors. The six strategies for instructing students with emotional disturbances follow. The first three are best suited for accommodating withdrawn students because they foster interpersonal contact. The second three are best suited for the aggressive student because they forestall aggressive or antisocial behavior.
