Answer to Question 1

Although people possess stable traits and characteristics that predispose them to behave in certain ways, these qualities by themselves do not determine how one is likely to behave. In other words, the way someone behaves is the result of both his or her characteristics (e.g., knowledge, skills, and personality) and the nature of the situation in which that person operates (e.g., the job and industry, the country where the job is performed, etc.). This approach, known as the interactionist approach, is very popular in OB today.
