The main purposes of feedback are that it:
 Helps build confidence. Praising good performance helps build confidence for future performance.
 Develops competence. Information about what has been done right and how to do the job correctly is valuable information that helps employees become more competent in future performance.
 Enhances involvement. Discussing performance issues allows the employee to understand his or her role in the unit and the organization and fosters greater involvement.
