Answer to Question 1

In the United States lengths for state name abbreviations, zip codes, and telephone numbers are all standard. Examples of elements found in a data dictionary that do not have standard lengths include names, addresses, city names, long narratives, etc.

Answer to Question 2

A look up table is a table that stores values to help insure consistency in data entry. A table listing all the states would be an example, or one listing all sale regions.
