(b) They must also feel intensely about a particular issue and hope that their enthusiasm
motivates others to participate.
(c) They motivate collective action by marketing an idea rather than a productby
developing new political appeals that resonate with peoples' interests and/or identities,
or by finding a new way to reinvigorate an old issue.
(d) They use existing or emerging forms of collective identity to generate a sense of
solidaritya collective sense that many people think, feel, or believe similarly about a
political issue.
