The fairness doctrine required that the media allow reasonable positions to be presented on controversial issues. Thus, if a pro-choice position was aired, a pro-life position would also be aired. The right of rebuttal is an FCC regulation that requires an opportunity for a person who has been attacked on the public airwaves to respond.
