Answer to Question 1

a. The qualities of good writing, the recursive nature of the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing), and the ways in which students can use this process themselves
b. The mechanical skills of writing (e.g., capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and spelling)

Answer to Question 2

a. A focus lesson in which the teacher teaches the students something about writing or writing workshop procedures
b. Writing time during which the students write, confer with the teacher, and confer with each other
c. Group sharing time during which two or three students share their writing with the group and receive responses
