Answer to Question 1

Answer: Industrial wastes are released into water. Plant and animal plankton become contaminated. Contaminated plankton is consumed by small fish. Large fish such as tuna and swordfish regularly consume smaller, contaminated fish, resulting in higher concentrations of contaminants. Humans may be affected if they consume contaminated fish.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Radon is a radioactive gas released from uranium present naturally in rocks and soil. It leaches into indoor air through a home's foundation. It can also enter groundwater and be released into the air as the water flows from faucets. It is a carcinogen and may cause lung cancer.
