Answer to Question 1

Answer: More than 90 of cases of lymphomas are non-Hodgkin lymphomas. These types arise in either of two groups of immune cells: B lymphocytes or T lymphocytes. Non-Hodgkin lymphomas can develop at any age, and usually the first signs are enlarged lymph nodes, fever, sweating, and weight loss. Hodgkin lymphoma, also called Hodgkin's disease, is one of the most curable forms of cancer. It typically occurs in people age 15 to 35 or in people over age 50. Hodgkin lymphoma arises in the lymph nodes and can spread to other sites. The earliest sign is usually enlarged lymph nodes, accompanied by sweating, chills, itching, loss of appetite, and weight loss.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).

Though Candida and Aspergillus species are the most common fungal pathogens causing invasive fungal disease in the immunocompromised, infections due to previously uncommon hyaline and dematiaceous filamentous fungi are occurring more often today. Rare fungal infections, once accurately diagnosed, may require surgical debridement, immunotherapy, and newer antifungals used singly or in combination with older antifungals, on a case-by-case basis.
