Answer to Question 1

Motivation is facilitated by competence, which is fostered by facing optimal challenges and receiving valuable performance feedback, and by relatedness, which is fostered by parental involvement and peer acceptance. The degree to which teachers encourage autonomy as opposed to retaining tight control also affects student motivation.
