Many students who major in psychology want to become therapists. For these students, there are five main career paths. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who, in addition to 4 years of medical training, has completed 3 years of residency training in psychiatry, most of which is spent in supervised clinical practice. Psychiatrists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal behavior. They are the only mental health professionals who are licensed to prescribe medications, in addition to providing psychotherapy. A psychoanalyst is a psychiatrist (or psychologist) who has received additional specialized training in psychoanalytic theory and practice, usually at a psychoanalytic institute that requires him or her to undergo psychoanalysis before practicing.

Question 2

One of the main constitutional changes in the American system of government over the years has been a shift from the purely republican system of government created by the framers, to a system that is much more democratic. The voting base has been extended, giving more people a direct voice in their government. For instance, the Seventeenth Amendment provided for the direct popular election of the Senate, the Nineteenth Amendment extended the right to vote to women, and the Twenty-sixth Amendment extended the vote to citizens age eighteen and over. Finally, fewer representatives now act as independent trustees, choosing instead to serve as delegates instructed by the voters through public opinion polls, mail counts, and the media. In these ways, the American republic has indeed approached democracy.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
