Explain how geologists calculate the distance between the epicenter of an earthquake and a given

What are two major and very useful differences between P- and S-waves? What will be an ideal response?

Answer to Question 1

By measuring the difference between the arrival times of P-waves and S-waves at a seismograph
location, and using a time-distance graph.



Answer to Question 2

P-waves move faster; they can travel through solids, liquids, and gases. S-waves only travel through
solids.
