  a. help students take charge of the classroom in a firm and positive manner.
 
  b. use assertive statements such as Do that again, Nelson, and see what happens. I've had my fill of you
 
  c. give up one or two of their rights only if doing so contributes to better student behavior.
 
  d. have clear cut rewards, but avoid punishment or negative consequences.
