The purpose of postmortem care is preparing the body for
viewing by the family, providing proper identification for the
body before it is taken to the morgue or mortuary, assuring
proper return of the deceased's personal belongings and
valuables to the family, and preparing the body for transfer to
the morgue or mortuary.
