Answer to Question 1

D
Feedback:
Adoption and artificial insemination are options for single women. Women who choose to have babies outside a committed relationship face the responsibilities and challenges of single parenthood. During the age of 30 to 40 years, women realize that they wish to have children now or it may soon be too late. Career goals and motherhood can conflict. An unmarried woman in her 30s may feel pressured to find the right father for the baby because life is passing her by.

Answer to Question 2

B
Feedback:
While the ovarian follicles are producing increased amounts of estrogen, the endometrium prepares for possible fertilization with pronounced growth during the proliferative phase. If fertilization does not occur, the corpus luteum degenerates and hormonal levels fall during the secretory phase. Withdrawal of hormones causes the endometrial cells to change, and menstruation begins. Maturation of an ovum occurs during the ovarian cycle; growth of the lining (endometrium) of the uterus occurs during the uterine cycle. Together, these cycles are known as the menstrual cycle.
