Complications associated with poor husbandry techniques include inadvertent disease
transmission or nosocomial infections, decreased feed consumption, colic or bloating due to
inappropriate type or delivery of feeds, entanglement of limbs in improperly secured hay nets
or blankets, and personal injury.

Answer to Question 2

Reasons for blanketing a horse include providing additional warmth to critically ill animals or
those having received a full body clip, protecting the hair coat and skin from soiled
bedding, and assisting with cooling the horse after exercise.
