Cultural competence is respecting and responding positively to group differences. Responses must includes opportunities for meaningful intercultural interactions. Examples in the school context could include exploring cultural values through literature, establishing Internet pen pals, and fostering discussion among diverse individuals, not superficial activities such as introducing food, crafts, or holiday celebrations.
