Answer to Question 1

A
Restating communicates to the patient that the nurse is listening and allows the patient to validate the nurse's understanding of what has been communicated. Restating is an active listening technique. Judgments should be suspended in a nurse-patient relationship. Closed-ended questions ask for specific information rather than showing understanding.

Answer to Question 2

C
The Korean culture stresses respect and duty towards one's aged family members. As a result, it would probably be very difficult for a Korean to consider placing an aged loved one in the care of strangers, even temporarily. Korean American caregivers are more likely to respond to and benefit from overtures that demonstrate understanding, empathy, and caring and from assistance to the caregiver as they provide care.
