Offering encouragement to participate in the group activity and supporting her as she tries to become more involved are helpful, but these actions do not give her the same sense of security as she receives with encouragement and participation in the group activity until she is comfortable. Offering her rewards defeats the purpose of instilling motivation and the improvement in self-esteem that results from participating according to her own desire.
