With psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, and somatic therapies, most clients with these conditions can return to normal functioning. Bipolar disorder is not, however, considered to be self-limiting.

Differentiating points are that hypomania has no psychotic features and does not impair functioning to a level that necessitates hospitalization.
