Treatment continues throughout the winter months, because symptoms are likely to return if light exposure stops. The person exposes his or her eyes to bright artificial light for approximately 2 hours per day. Several phototherapy devices are on the market, but the fluorescent light box with a filter to screen out ultraviolet rays is the gold standard.
