Answer to Question 1

1) Patient is approached from the back and wrapped in a towel (birdie burrito), then grasped with one hand under the lower beak while the other hand holds the feet and supports the bird. Patient should be held upright to prevent aspiration.
2) Restraint for blood draw: Wrap in towel and position on left side with your thumb under the lower beak and the rest of your hand around the head. The free hand lowers the right wing to expose the jugular vein.

Answer to Question 2

Avocados (including guacamole), onions, rhubarb, garlic, raw squash (squash contains an enzyme that is toxic and is destroyed when cooked), chocolate, caffeine, and alcoholic beverages. Highly salted items and food from the owner's mouth are non-toxic but should be avoided.
