Answer to Question 1

Antemortem inspection is the first inspection for production animals. Animals to be slaughtered must be inspected while still alive. Animals that are down, disabled, diseased, or dead are condemned as unsafe for human consumption. Postmortem inspection is done after animals are slaughtered. The head, heart, lungs, spleen, and liver are inspected for signs of diseases, parasites, or other problems that might render the meat less than wholesome.
