The Anasazi lived in the American Southwest beginning 11,000 to 10,000 years ago. 3,500 years ago, corn was introduced to the Anasazi leading to the development of agriculture in their society. Squash, beans, and cotton were also grown, and domesticated turkeys were kept. They also developed irrigation. Wild plants that were gathered for food included pine nuts, acorns, yucca, and prickly pear cactus, and rodents and deer were hunted.
