Answer to Question 1

ANS:Ash
lumber is heavy, hard, stiff, and is highly resistant to shock. It has excellent bending qualities. It is
popular for use in handles, baseball bats, boat oars, and furniture. Ash lumber resembles oak in
appearance.

Answer to Question 2

ANS:White
oak lumber is very hard, heavy, and strong. Its pores are plugged with membranes that make it
nearly waterproof. Red oak is similar except that it is very porous. It is not very resistant to decay and
must be treated with wood preservatives when used outside.
