Answer to Question 1

 Maturation of the commodity
 Physical injuries
 Diseases
Temperature extremes (either too high or low)
 Water stress

Answer to Question 2

The key steps in the ethylene biosynthetic pathway are as follows:
S-adenosylmethionine (AdoMet) is converted to 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic
acid (ACC) via the enzyme ACC synthase. ACC has two fates:
The conversion to malonyl ACC (which is an inactive end product) via the enzyme
ACC N-malonyltransferase (ACC-NMtase)
The conversion to ethylene via the enzyme ACC oxidase

When Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the first mercury thermometer, he called "zero degrees" the lowest temperature he was able to attain with a mixture of ice and salt. For the upper point of his scale, he used 96°, which he measured as normal human body temperature (we know it to be 98.6° today because of more accurate thermometers).

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
