Assume that under ideal conditions bacteria divide every 20 minutes,
  doubling their numbers. Starting with a single bacterium under these
  circumstances, how many would there be after two hours? Four hours? Eight
  hours?

If bacterial colonies grow so rapidly, why dont we see them everywhere? Why
  havent they crowded out other forms of life?
