The example of using rootstocks in apple varieties mentioned earlier in the
  exercise was directed toward producing smaller apples. Think of at least two
  different ways rootstocks might be used to produce more desirable fruits.
  Describe them.

Answers will vary. Sweeter fruits; juicier fruits; cold- or heat-tolerant plants; greater
number of fruits per plant.
