Nine important considerations when starting a lawn by seeding include
1. Select the right seed
2. Sow the seed properly according to the seed package label
3. Sow half the seed in a north-south direction and the other half in an east-west
direction
4. Cover the seed
5. Mulch the seed with the appropriate material
6. Mulches applied evenly and lightly may be left in place and allow the grass to grow
through


7. On a sloped bank, use Curlex to help retain moisture
8. Water the seed to keep it moist
9. Avoid saturating the soil

Examples of materials that are used to increase the organic matter in a new lawn are
well-rotted sawdust, weed-free, well-rotted manure, composted leaves and grass, or
commercial peat moss at the rate of 6 cubic feet per 1,000 square feet of land.
