Answer to Question 1

The type of soil that works best for bulb planting is well drained garden loam in a
neutral pH soil. If the pH value is below 6.0, ground limestone should be added at the rate of 10 pounds per 100 square feet to raise the pH to 7.0. A small amount of 5-10-5
fertilizer should be dug into the bottom of the bed.

Answer to Question 2

Bulbs are used in landscape design to add early spring color, provide cut flowers, attract
pollinators, and add fragrance. Bulbs are also used in wooded areas, rock gardens, and
with evergreen shrubs. Answers will vary regarding commonly used bulbs.
