Answer to Question 1

3. Encourage fluids

Rationale:
The child should be encouraged to begin oral fluids and nutrition when permitted. Although oral fluids are rarely limited, intake and output should be carefully assessed. Fluids and antibiotics should be provided as ordered until the child's oral intake is normal. Once normal, the line can be converted to a heparin or saline lock. Both intake and output should be monitored.

Answer to Question 2

3. How do you implement new unit policy?

Rationale:
In order to determine the leadership style of the manager, the nurse would ask the manager how they handle new unit policies. If the manager states that an attempt to involve the staff in decision making, the nurse would know the manager has a participative style. Asking about the shift will not tell the nurse about leadership style. How is the manager implements orientation would not necessarily reveal the manager's leadership style. Working overtime is a unit or hospital rule, not a leadership style.
