Answer to Question 1

C
A compound fracture, also known as an open fracture, is a fracture in which the bone is sticking through the skin. General complications of fractures include infection, fat embolism, and compartment syndrome, a progressive constriction of nerves and blood vessels that can lead to permanent loss of limb function. However, for a compound fracture, the greatest risk is infection related to the open wound. Medical treatment includes an open reduction, a surgical procedure that allows direct visualization of the fracture repair and may include insertion of special orthopedic devices (pins, screws, wires, nails, etc.) to maintain the reduction.

Answer to Question 2

D
Clients who would benefit from rehabilitation/restorative care services are those most likely to have areas in need of improvement. The 62-year-old client with left-side paralysis resulting from a stroke will have needs in many areas such as speech, strengthening, ambulation, and safety issues.
