Answer to Question 1

C
The primary risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes is obesity; other risk factors include age, insufficient exercise, hypertension, dyslipidemia, history of gestational diabetes mellitus, ethnic background, and family history of diabetes.

Answer to Question 2

Type 2 diabetes mellitus initially begins with insulin resistance, where the cells are not able to use the insulin properly. As it progresses, the pancreas gradually loses the ability to produce adequate qualities of insulin.
