Answer to Question 1

A
In Ontario, nurses must follow the standards of professional practice. When accused of incom-petent care, the nurse will be evaluated according to these standards.
Best practice guidelines are not used to evaluate the competence of a nurse.
The CNA's Vision and Mission Statement is not used to evaluate the competence of a nurse.
The purpose of certification is to provide an opportunity for practitioners to validate their exper-tise in a specialty; to promote high standards of nursing practice in order to provide quality nurs-ing care to the people of Canada; and to identify through a recognized credential those nurses who have met the specialty standard. It is not used to evaluate the competence of a nurse.

Answer to Question 2

A Immediately after breakfast is too soon to take advantage of the stimulant effect that breakfast exerts for defecation.
B The best time to assist in the promotion of normal defecation is not 30 minutes after dinner.
C Just before dinner is not the best time to assist in the promotion of normal defecation.
D The best time to assist the patient to the bathroom to defecate is 15 to 20 minutes after breakfast. The reflex to defecate is strongest when food is eaten on an empty stomach. This is why breakfast is often referred to as the triggering meal.
